This female was first identified in 2005 at Lankan Beyru in North Male. Following her first sighting she was not seen again for another 4 years until she made a reappearance in Baa Atoll in August 2009 at Hanifaru Bay. Between 2010 and 2015 there were no recorded sightings of this individual again and then in January this year she returned to North Male and has been sighted three times is Rasfari North since then. In total Shandy has been sighted 8 times and was last seen cleaning at Rasfari North on the 2nd of February 2015. (Information provided by Manta Trust)

This mature male was first identified in July 2007 at Lankan. Following his first sighting he was not recorded again for another 6 years until he made a reappearance in December 2013 and was seen at Madi Thila. Our encounter is only the third recorded sighting of Scurvy so it is great to see that he is still around! (Information provided by Manta Trust)

This mature male was first identified in September 2009 at Lankan. He has been sighted a total of 8 times and is noted to have gill damage with a hole in his 1st left gill slit and an extra overlap of the 3rd right gill. This is most likely the result of an infection. He was last sighted on the 26th of February 2015 at Rasfari North. (Information provided by Manta Trust)

Our first addition to the Manta Trust Database. We decided to call this young male "SoKeTo" - SonjaKeanuTom :-)
The sighting location was very close to the reef, in shallow water, southerly swell and really bad visibility. Lots of Plankton, lots of food for Mantas.

This juvenile manta was first identified in June 2009 at Himendhoo Thila, Ari Atoll. This individual has only been recorded twice with the last encounter noted in September 2014 at Maavaru Falhu. It’s great to see this little one is still around.

This mature male was first identified in March 2014 at Moofushi Bojamhadi. He is noted to have damage to his right pectoral which resembles a healed shark bite injury.  He has only been recorded twice with his last sighting in August 2014 at Maavaru Falhu. It’s great to have another record of him in the area.

Our second addition to the Manta Trust Database. We decided to call this mature female "Ursula", for various reasons. "Ursula" is the girlfriend of Keanu's favourite children's book hero "Petzi". She's also a Sea Witch in Hans Christian Andersen's tale "The little Mermaid", features in.Arielle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursula_(The_Little_Mermaid). And her name starts with an "U" like the shape of the dots on her chest. The sighting location was very close to the reef, in shallow water, southerly swell and really bad visibility. Lots of Plankton, lots of food for Mantas.

This mature male was first identified in November 2007 at Lankan. He has been sighted a total of 9 times. He is a regular to the North Male region and was last recorded at Boduhithi Thila on the 29th of January 2015. As you would have noted Smithie has a large shark bite on his left pectoral fin close to the base of the tail, this injury was first noted in 2010.

This mature female was first recorded in November 2011 at Lankan, North Male. She has been sighted a total of 31 times all of which have been in North Male Atoll. On the 16th of January 2015 she was noted to be heavily pregnant (in her 3rd/ 4th trimester). The last time she was noted to be pregnant was on the 30th of January. According to Manta Trust records she was last seen on the 20th of February 2015 and was recorded to no longer be pregnant. From our images it looks like her baby bump is no longer there....so there must be a little 'Sumo junior' swimming around somewhere :) (Information provided by Manta Trust) Notice the new mating scars on her left pectoral fin.

This mature female was first recorded in November 2011 at Lankan, North Male. She has been sighted a total of 31 times all of which have been in North Male Atoll. On the 16th of January 2015 she was noted to be heavily pregnant (in her 3rd/ 4th trimester). The last time she was noted to be pregnant was on the 30th of January. According to Manta Trust records she was last seen on the 20th of February 2015 and was recorded to no longer be pregnant. From our images it looks like her baby bump is no longer there....so there must be a little 'Sumo junior' swimming around somewhere :) (Information provided by Manta Trust)

This mature male was first identified in August 2008 at Hanifaru, Baa Atoll. He has been sighted a total of 12 times. He is a regular to the Baa Atoll region and has only been sighted once in another atoll - this being Fasdhu Atoll. This is the first record of Frenchie in the North Male Region. Frenchie was last seen over a year ago in October 2013 at Hurai Faru, Baa Atoll. Its great to see him again! (Information provided by Manta Trust)

This mature female was first identified in October 2006 at Sunlight Faru, North Male. She has been sighted a total of 16 times all of which have been in North Male Atoll.
